Joe W. Underwood was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1987 and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, District of South Carolina, and U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit. He was educated at East Carolina University (B.S., M.A.,) and the University of South Carolina (J.D.), where he was a member of the Order of Wig and Robe and the Order of the Coif, and where he served as a Legal Writing instructor. He is a member of the Richland County Bar Association and the Beaufort County Bar Association as well as the District of Columbia Bar. He is also a member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and has taught domestic relations at numerous continuing legal education seminars of the South Carolina Bar. His reported cases include Webb v. Sowell, 387 S.C. 328, 692 S.E.2d 543 (2010) and Anderson v. Raine (In re Moore), 907 F.2d 1476 (4th Cir. 1990).
